I worked out what those little ribs are I'm pointing to in the first photo, really technical stuff....
it's just the original tyre edge. worked that out sitting behind one on the back of a 4b @ the lights.

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

I've had the 34" Desert Hawks XMT for a couple of months. Use them as a second set for offroad. I have been suitably impressed by them and would recommend them. They have a softish compound so correct tyre pressures are needed for even wear onroad.

well....sorry for the lack of reporting on the tyres, but the sudden influx of monsoon weather put paid to my plans to hit glassy on sunday, I've been there enough times to know to give it a chance to dry out a little, & i've seen first hand the damage it does when large trucks & tyres go to "play in the mud" & I have no interest in adding to the destructive reputation people want to give us.
i'll be keen to try again this weekend but the forcast isn't promising, nothing worse than looking at a set of brand new CLEAN set of muddies.....over a weekend......:-[

Andrew, I am completely with you here. A mate of mine had a very close encounter with a tree while sliding on a muddy track (which is usually a very straight dirt road) in Glassy. He was just sliding down from the track into a ditch and just missed a tree by gunning the car which was otherwise un-steerable. Again, that was a very very easy track, basically a motorway like road which goes towards the powerlines. Mind you, he had 35-inch BF-Goodrich Mud Tyres. Again, Glasshouse Mountains after heavy rain ... and as much as Iove mud ... nope nope nope. 😉

Matt, apparently the cheeky bugger is going out for a play today... Or so he was bragging to me last night anyway 🙁

🙁 geez... everybody's wheelin but me... oh well, I spent the day fixing minor probs with the 4B and trailer anyway, so still had my hands on it... =-O oh, that sounded a little wrong...

If it makes you feel any better i didn't go out today. The mrs pointed out I need my car on wednesday to go to grafton for an interview 🙁

Like i was going to damage it again.

OK. finally got some dirt on the tyres.....first thing I noticed, nice & quiet on the black top.......hhmmmmm.....not the usual sign of a chunky muddy.
anywho, aired down, they bag nicely, had one bloke try to tell me retreads won't bag cos of the glueing of the sidewall......WRONG.
one problem surfaced quite quickly, the extra diameter of the tyre now hits the underside of the tray, which is ribbed across ways, & the lugs fitted in the ribs perfectly. bugger. so I spent the rest of the day trying to avoid full flex. no biggie, only needs about 5mm or so, a few washers under the tray mounts.
ok, grip??? oh yes. plenty of it. did manage to do a little rock climbing & the grip felt impressive. very confidence inspiring.
mud.........found a nice big bog hole. drove into the middle & stopped. my mate says wot ya doin?? your stuck eh?? (he was keen as to get his brand new runva winch out) nah.... just testing the tyres, I tell him. no excessive wheelspin & drove out easily.
so ..... so far so good. but anything brand new feels great. & if they didn't I'd be worried. it's a case of how consistant are they going to be. after the drive there, 5 hours wheeling, & the drive home. (40 mins) the little nipples weren't even worn right off.
anywho, here's a couple of pics from the day.
the pic of the nice view is just to remind us what we love about this.
& the pic of the 3 wheeled patrol........well.....that's what you get for being a troller!! hahaha.

quietly confident......HELL NO!!! the tyres are crap, my cv's are shot....lsd is worn out...i'll have a permanent snatch strap hooked on ready to go......

Ha ha ya clown! It's only a trap if the victim doesn't know your methods... Unfortunately I know very well your tricks and techniques for being the unstoppable driver... I will NOT be driving into waist deep bogholes on this trip, believe you me... 😁

the 3 wheeled gu....ok...
I his desperate attempt to keep up with the dayo, climbing up out of a creek in a rather narrow track, he kept a little to far to the right & climbed a tree root, it lifted the whole front of the troll 2 feet in the air & then it slipped off & rolled the tyre off upon landing.
no damage at all, except the ego, sat back on the bead nicely, & pumped up no drammas.
it did provide a solid 40 minutes of ribbing, jokes & general entertainment.
even his 4 year old son proudly pointed out the shinny NISSAN badge on the back door as dad got the tools out. so I pointed out how the holden was waiting patiently for the Nissan to be fixed.
