When it's time for a break from the ordinary, experience nature first hand at Flanagan Reserve.
Flanagan Reserve Bush Camping has 12 Hectares of camping and is situated on a no thru road located in one of the most peaceful areas of the Scenic Rim, on the banks of the beautiful Logan River. The grounds are nestled amongst a natural bush setting at the foothills of Mt Maroon and the World Heritage listed Mt Barney National Park.
From Brisbane or the Gold Coast head to Beaudesert and follow the Mount Lindesay Highway 33km to Rathdowney. Drive through Rathdowney and just past the school turn right into Boonah-Rathdowney Road. Follow this road for 7kms then turn left into Upper Logan Road and approximately 4 kms follow it to the end - tee intersection. Turn right into Flanagan Reserve Road. The road so far has been bitumen and becomes a well maintained gravel road - it is only 1 km to a cattle grid which is the border to the reserve. 500 metres further in is the office and nearby amenities. You are requested to register on arrival

The camp ground is quite big and nicely set up. There's a lot of space for not only tents but also camper vans and camper trailers. Close to the campground runs a nice little creek with clear water and lots of fish in there (you can see them jumping in the early morning hours). We discovered 2 rope swings along the creek - great for kids. If you have inflatable boats, bring them. It's great fun to float along the creek.

The facilities are neat and clean. There's freshwater and the little shop on the entry has everything from ice to coffee. The owner of the shop is very friendly and helpful. He knows the area quite well and can give you advice if you are looking for offroading tracks. The offroad climb up to Mt Barney is approx 10mins away but will stretch up to 45 minutes depending on the conditions. I wouldn't suggest to get up there right after heavy rain but it's fairly moderate when it's dry. Steep climbs with lots of gravel and a few slippery rocks will await you.
