Drive your own rigThe 4WD in your garage is the rig in the game, in your paint, with every mod you swore was essential.
Your mods change how it drivesLift, tyres, lockers, bars, roof load and snorkel all count on the track. Yes, even the rooftop tent. Especially the rooftop tent.
A new track every daySeven scenes, one per weekday. Only your best run of the day counts, so the others can be as untidy as you like.

Air downT
Softer tyres grip more, most of all in sand. Only changes when nearly stopped. Too fast on firm ground and a tyre rolls off the rim, which is every bit as undignified as it sounds.
Low rangeL
More pull at a crawl, and it holds you back on the way down. Each rig has its own ratio. Only shifts when nearly stopped. Slow isn’t boring here; slow is clever.
Lock it upK
With open diffs a wheel in the air just spins, uselessly, like it’s showing off. Lockers keep drive where there’s grip, but steer less and top out slower.
Rock it free↑ ↓
Hung up on the belly? Don’t panic. Swap between forward and reverse, and steer each way, until it comes off. Not elegant, but it works.
Yellow flags+40
The hard line. Put a wheel over it without stopping, or take the sensible way round for no points. A log bridge without dropping a wheel is +25.
Winch & boardsX M N
Stuck for 2 seconds and the HUD asks STUCK? with what’s left. The winch pulls to an anchor 18 m ahead; you start with one pair of boards and find more on the track. Finally, a use for all that gear.
Wildlife!
Roos, emus, cassowaries, dingoes and echidnas cross ahead, with no road sense whatsoever. Hit one over 20 km/h and the run’s over, unless a bullbar takes it. An echidna can go between the wheels.
Water~
Too long with the air intake under and the engine drowns. It’s a 4WD, not a submarine. A snorkel and lift raise the limit.

The week · a new track every day

Seven scenes, one per day

Mon
RainforestRed clay, bogs, creeks and fallen logs. Rains most runs, naturally.
Tue
OutbackCorrugations, bulldust and the odd red sand ridge, on top of rocks, logs and washaways. A proper day out.
WedTODAY
Rocky climbSteep and stepped. Clearance, tyres and lockers matter. So does nerve.
ThuTOMORROW
Cape YorkCorrugations, creek after creek, gunshots and cassowaries. Hang on to your fillings.
Fri
High CountryLong climbs and steeper descents on loose shale. Gravity has opinions.
Sat
K’gariBeach sand, washouts, creek mouths, the tide and dingoes. The tide waits for no one.
Sun
Simpson DesertDune after dune of soft red sand. Air down or bog. There is no third option.
Your build, on the track

Every mod changes how it drives

Add your 4WD to the garage with its lift, tyres, lockers and gear, and TrailDays drives it exactly the way you built it: good decisions, bad decisions, the lot. Weight goes where the part sits, so a loaded roof tips you sooner and a bullbar takes a roo.

TyresMore grip and clearance per inch. Muds grip best and stake least; bigger ones cost a little pull. Worth it, obviously.
LiftMore clearance, wading depth and wheel travel. The weight sits higher, so you tip sooner. Everything has a price.
Solid axlesMore wheel travel than IFS, so the wheels stay on the ground over the rocks. Old school, and brilliant at it.
LockersDrive stays on the wheel with grip. Less steering, lower top speed. A small price.
Low rangeEvery rig has its own ratio: some crawl slower and pull harder than others.
Diff gearsA higher ratio pulls harder and tops out slower.
BullbarTakes an animal strike: you keep 50% of your speed, not lose the run. Cuts your approach angle.
Rear barCuts your departure angle. Looks tough, though.
Winch3 pulls a run, up to a tree or boulder 18 m ahead.
SnorkelWading depth from 0.6 m to 0.95 m; lift adds to both. Deep water gets a lot less exciting.
SlidersRock sliders or bash plates: the belly slides over rock instead of catching.
Roof loadRack, tent, water tank, jerry cans up high: you tip sooner. Pack like you mean to get home.
Touring kitAwning, light bar, shovel, boards, recovery gear, CB antenna: each weighs what it weighs, where it’s mounted. Physics doesn’t do discounts.
Engine modsTurbo, tune, intake, exhaust: more torque each, up to 15% for a supercharger. Lovely.
